TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Three-time Olympian Troy Dumais captured his 29th national title Saturday, winning the senior men’s 3-meter springboard at the U.S. Summer National Diving Championships at the Morcom Aquatic Center.
Dumais, who won the 1-meter national title on Thursday, finished more than 27 points ahead of runner-up Jevon Tarantino in the final round, scoring 511.80. He said that right now he feels he’s on cruise control.
“I’ve trained all year and I’m just going with it,” Dumais said. “I had just won silver [in the 3-meter and synchronized 3-meter events] at the world championships and I didn’t want to lose at nationals. I just went with the mindset that whatever happens, happens and not look back at the negative, but just look ahead to the positive.”
Tarantino came back from his silver in the 3-meter springboard to win the synchronized 3-meter springboard title with teammate Christopher Colwill, scoring 440.43. Katherine Bell won the senior women’s platform title with a 346.95 score in the finals, while Kaylea Arnett and Michelle Cabassol won the synchronized women’s platform title with a score of 316.08.
It was the third straight national title in that event for Arnett and Cabassol, both 16 years old.
“It feels great,” Cabassol said. “We kept our title and had fun doing it.”
